HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope you have a great kick off to the year 2008! 1st Jan also marks our 1st engagement anniversary. Mon amour is away sailing, can't even talk to him last night. So what I did? I just chilled in at home watching TV instead of joining the manic celebration in KL. Too old for that now.
When the clock hit 12, I immediately put on my crystal bracelet while contemplating an excellent future. It was a gift from my stepmom for my birthday. She loves crystal and has quite a collection. I've decided to wear it on the new year for an auspicious start.
According to the Chinese culture (my stepmom is a Chinese), crystals are symbols of good luck and possess healing force. It can be worn as jewellery to help in maintaining balance, focus, centeredness, mental clarity as well as, physical and emotional stability. Crystals are also worn to enhance your Chi when made to be worn on your body. My stepmom bought this for me for my relationship and career. She said it may sound superstitious but of course the rest is up to God.
Therefore, with crystals or no crystals, let's pray for a better year ahead! 2008 has been awaited with much anticipation for the future it holds for me. I will be very very busy this year.

Arch of swords
I accompanied my fiancé to his friend’s wedding. Actually he’s one of the sword bearers. Walking pass under an arch of swords is such a tradition for a military officer’s wedding. The arch of swords ceremony is an old English and American custom, which gives a symbolic pledge of loyalty to the newly married couple from their Marine family. Only the newly married couple is allowed to pass under the arch.
He said it’ll be good if I come to watch so I have an idea of what ours would be like… It was stirring to see these men in white uniform move simultaneously with much honour and coordination… Guess who caught my eyes? Of course the one who’s caught my heart Here are some pix during their rehearsal.

The birthday saga continues
At first I thought it'll just be another lame birthday for me except for a bday meal after work which has been arranged earlier with my dear officemate a.k.a big sister, Kak Malina... I could imagine locking myself in the office, and get some of the mounting work sorted out...it wasn't for long until sms of bday wishes started pouring in again... even from some of my 'apprentices'...
then, I went out for a late lunch with my friend when my mobile rang.. the guy started talking strange on the other end, 'may be he got the wrong person', i said to myself... but after he explained to me that he has 'barang' for me, it immediately occured to me 'ah, must be from my mr right', feeling a bit chuffed. it was indeed a bunch of red roses and a teddy from him. he's usually very practical and not good at making surprises.. knowing me, he'd ask what I want instead of getting me something that I might not like or use in the end...what a nice surprise this time! thanks hunny bunny...
shortly after, one of my 'apprentices' popped in to pass me a present.. it's a Parker pen with my name engraved on it... classy! I was really pleased... then we went straight from work to d Curve for a meal... Kak Malina treated me with gastronomic ribs and we wrapped up the meal with a slice of cheesecake.. being health conscious, of course we shared it between the 3 of us (our colleague Mamat joined us too)... we had a really good laugh over the meal.. oh! at some point, I also received an sms from sis unfolding a good news... cousin Aida has given birth to a bouncy baby girl... 'hello little muffin, I'm your aunty, we share the same birthday'.. wink2...
next, we dropped by at Jimi & Alang's new bachelor's pad for a house tour and to collect my bday prezie from my dear friend, Add who passed it to Jimi thru another friend... Add, thanks for that piece of kangaroo...so soft... there was more food at J&A's... Alang cooked delicious bihun goreng S'pore for us... really good but our toungue was burning! btw their new pad is brilliant and very cozy.
after that, I didn't call it a day yet. the next rendezvous was in IOI mall to meet my sister, Danish and cousin Marina for a drink. Adik baked me a special choc cake: less sugar and less egg... just the way I like it... mmmmm it was yummylicious... perfetto! I pinched 2 decent-size slices once I got home... notty, notty...she also bought me something I could wear while sweating off those extra inches in the gym...I love my new sport watch...
it has now passed midnight... I smile thinking, 'gosh, I had an awesome bday this time'... there's more to come on Saturday

Welcome to the 30's club
3 BIG candles!
My mobile was bleeping when I was fast asleep last nite and only found sms of birthday wishes when I was up this morning. I felt there's a magic running through my vein as soon as I opened my eyes. Apparently, it feels good to be 30! It's a turning point in my life. Now I've joined the likes of many other successful women who made it in their 30's. If you look around you, women in their 30's are more confident, radiant, wiser and sexier. Bring in sexy back! They are beauty with brain. They are content with their life. They know what they want. They are capable of building inner strength from broken pieces of the past. Enough said already.
Well, I'm grateful to Allah for a good life He has given me. Of course there's been rough edges too but whose life hasn't been anyway? These are things that make you who you are today, that create your good values. I'm now a happy functional lady. The only way to go from here is FORWARD. The love around me fuels my energy to wake up to another day in my life. Thanks for all the bday wishes!

Taman Negara Pahang
Geoff, my ex-supervisor visited our shore again this month.. he's got teaching appointment here but would like to squeeze in a bit of adventure in between his business trip... he suggested either a trip to the Taman Negara Pahang or driving up to Penang... it's been a long time since I last went for a messy outdoor activity.. from what I remember, I didn' like it very much coz I can't have a good shower, it's all messy and muddy, there'll be a series of cleaning to do once you get home, and above all, i hate bugs! arrrgghhhh... so I was trying to talk him into the latter option. Geoff was adamant that we should go to the jungle coz he might as well do it while he's reasonably fit and healthy... at first, I was gutted to learn about this thinking it'll be a trip to hell...
to get a group of 4, I've asked my sis (who's not into this too) and her hubby, Razak (who's a big fan of mother nature) to come along... so we geared up for the adventure... I'm not a fashionistas but the rubber shoes Razak bought for us was damagingly unfashionable! we refused to wear them at first.. much to my surprise, the shoes are perfect for the jungle... absolutely functional! and shockingly comfortable... guess how much they cost us? RM7 per pair... therefore highly recommended if you're jungle trekking...
when we got there, half of me was still in civilisation... I wasn't dead excited yet, especially after that back-soring 3 hours boat ride and knowing that I should not expect to see any mammals in the jungle... apparently the development has scared them away...
It wasn’t until the night walk into the jungle that things started to get a bit more stimulating… there were no mosquitoes at all…weird! Perhaps that’s the wonder of ecological balance…the 2nd day activities were great fun which ended up with a dip in the river… Geoff was holding us up a bit.. bless him.. lucky Razak was there to take care of him all the time… after all that strenuous activities, we thought we’re going to be mashed up at the end of the day… surprisingly we weren’t tired at all (except for Geoff of course, hehee..)
Thinking of it now, I’m glad that we went for the trip… initially Geoff was worried that I will not enjoy it… it turned out to be that I was the one who enjoyed it the most! Oh! I forgot to mention that we had a friendly efficient tour guide too. My fiancé was happy that I passed the ‘test’… which means I’ll be OK to backpack with him in the future… but I still prefer my leisure holiday where I can put my feet up and get my massage therapy to rejuvenate the mind and body.. sorry darling
